The Boundary County Amateur Radio Club (BARC), a 501(c)(3)1 organization, provides, like many other ARES/RACES affiliated clubs, critical emergency services during times of community need. These are the times when disaster strikes, whether natural or man-made, and also when the good events happen like the local Rotary Club2 bike race.

We are developing an alternate communications infrastructure to serve these needs. Contrary to common beliefs the modern phones and emergency services communication systems are not immune to failure. The key to the amateur system is that we are independent and self sufficient in regards to our equipment and training, although some training does overlap. We are able to setup in remote locations quickly providing crucial communication links. This is especially important in an area as rural as Boundary County.

We are currently operating and maintaining a wide coverage repeater3 located on Black Mtn. This requires continuing maintenance which costs money.

We are also outfitting local fire stations with amateur equipment to help the community in the event of an emergency. We currently need some support equipment for these locations in order to bring everything online.
